Duties & Responsibilities

CBS² is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our team as a Transportation Design Leader.

This is a full-time role based out of any of our 5 locations.

CBS² is seeking an experienced Transportation Design Leader to lead the design and delivery of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects across Wisconsin. This role is responsible for owning plan production, advancing Civil 3D design, and supporting projects from concept through final design and construction documentation. You’ll work closely with project managers while also mentoring junior engineers and CAD technicians, helping elevate the team’s technical capabilities. This is an opportunity to take on increasing project ownership within a collaborative environment focused on quality, innovation, and community impact.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Lead transportation design and plan production efforts for roadway and infrastructure projects
  • Develop detailed roadway designs, including horizontal and vertical alignments, using Civil 3D and related design tools
  • Prepare and oversee construction plans, specifications, quantities, and supporting project documentation
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers to deliver on project scope, schedule, and key deliverables
  • Serve as an internal project manager on select projects, supporting coordination, communication, and execution
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, EITs, and CAD technicians
  • Review design work and ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to applicable standards (WISDOT, local agencies, etc.)
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Perform hands-on drafting and design work as needed to support project deadlines
  • Participate in field visits and site assessments to support design development and project execution
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including survey, construction, and environmental staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 6+ years of transportation engineering experience, with a strong focus on roadway design and plan production
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and related design tools
  • Experience developing roadway designs, including horizontal and vertical alignments
  • Strong understanding of transportation design standards, including WISDOT and/or local agency requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with project managers, clients, and internal teams
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior staff

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Experience serving in a project coordination or project management capacity
  • Background in hydrologic and/or hydraulic design
  • Experience with quantity calculations and construction cost estimating
  • Familiarity with Minnesota DOT standards or multi-state project work
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across survey, utilities, and construction
